Bank holidays, shut downs, skeleton staff and other factors can result in changes to pay dates during the festive period. If you’re thinking of changing your pay date you need to consider the below…

Check your Employment Contracts

Make sure they are clear and concise. If the Christmas pay date does not meet the clause in your employment contract you could be breaking the terms of the contract.

Think about BACs Pay Dates

With the bank holidays it’s easy to get confused but remember you need 3 days for a BACs payment to clear.

  • Pay date Thursday 24th December 2020 – BACs needs to be submitted no later than Monday 21st December 2019.
  • Pay date Friday 28th December 2020 – BACs needs to be submitted no later than Monday 22nd December 2020.
  • Pay date Friday 3rd January 2021 – BACs needs to be submitted no later than Monday 29th December 2020.

RTI Submissions

If you are changing your Christmas pay date keep your RTI submissions’ dates the same as your usual pay date, otherwise this will have an affect on Universal Credits for your employees.

Tell your Employees

Most importantly let your workers know in advance when they’ll be paid!
